Fructose

  • Fructose is a monosaccharide.

  • The number of C atoms are 6 i.e. it is a Hexose sugar.

  • The cyclic structure of Fructose consist of a 5 membered ring (furanose) having 4 C atoms and 1 O atom.

  • Molecular formula is C6H12O6.

  • Fructose is an isomer of Glucose.

  • Commonly called Fruit sugar as it naturally occurs in fruits as main sugar.

  • Other sources of Fructose is Honey, sugarbeet, sugarcane etc.

  • Fructose can be converted to Glucose by enzyme Isomerase and can enter Glycolytic pathway.
